It is a great pleasure to participate in the Chamber Day Celebrations of the Hindustan Chamber of Commerce, present the ‘Champion of Humanity Awards’ and address this distinguished gathering here today.

India is now on its onward march towards becoming a developed nation.  We had made rapid strides since Independence.  The silent economic revolution has made Indian economy a vibrant one.  To become a developed nation we have to develop in all spheres.  The Chambers of Commerce have an onerous responsibility in steering our nation’s progress.  They should act as a bridge between the Industry, Business class and the Governments.  They should be facilitator of industrial progress and prosperity.  The members of Chamber of Commerce should shoulder the responsibility in setting in motion the wheel of progress.

I congratulate the Hindustan Chamber of Commerce for its initiatives for creating an environment conducive to the growth of India and particularly of Tamil Nadu. It is a matter of great pride to participate in the ‘Chamber Day’ celebrations of the Hindustan Chamber of Commerce which was visited by great leaders like Dr.S.Radhakrishnan, the then President of India, Smt. Indira Gandhi, Shri Vallabhbhai Patel, Dr.C.N.Annadurai and Shri C.Subramaniam.

I am glad to learn that the Hindustan Chamber of Commerce has completed 60 years (1945 – 2011) of distinguished service to the industry and to its members by cutting across all the barriers in creating jobs and in aiding the economic growth of the nation. I am pleased to learn that this Chamber catalyses change by working closely with Government on policy issues, enhancing efficiency, competitiveness and expanding business opportunities for industry through a range of specialized services and global linkages.

I congratulate the Hindustan Chamber of Commerce for providing a platform for sectoral consensus building and networking and for laying major emphasis on developing a positive image of business, assisting industry to identify and execute corporate citizenship programmes. I am sure that the Hindustan Chamber of Commerce will take it as its bounden duty to facilitate India’s transformation into an economically vital, technologically innovative, socially and ethically vibrant global leader by year 2022.  Hindustan Chamber of Commerce’s focus on revival of the Economy, fast tracking infrastructure and improved Governance are the prime Agenda for this year.

It is befitting to honour persons of eminence from the field of social service and industry every year with the Champion of Humanity Award instituted by the Hindustan Chamber of Commerce. I congratulate Dr.S.Suresh, Managing Director, Mediscans, Mr.Vidya Shankar Krishnan, the second generation entrepreneur for transformation and modernization of M.M.Forgings.
