ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY DR.K.ROSAIAH, GOVERNOR OF TAMIL NADU AT THE 10TH GRADUATION DAY CELEBRATIONS OF SRI KANYAKA PARAMESWARI ARTS AND SCIENCE COLLEGE FOR WOMEN, CHENNAI ON 21.01.2012 AT 5.00 P.M.
It is a great pleasure to participate in the 10th Graduation Day Celebrations of Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Arts and Science College for Women, present the Degrees to the young Graduands and address this distinguished gathering and students here today. Education is a holistic path towards bringing in over all development. It inculcates in youth sincerity, nurtures good conduct and character and develops them into useful citizens of tomorrow.
A man is made up of his thoughts and a woman is made up of heart. As Rabindranath Tagore said “women are the builder and moulder of a nation’s destiny. Women’s education not only has an impact on the family, but on the nation as a whole.” Education leads to empowerment of women. I am glad to learn that the Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Devasthanam and Charities which has founded this women’s college in 1999, aims to provide quality education, excellent coaching in curricular and co-curricular activities. The initiatives taken by the Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Arts and Science College for Women to infuse self-confidence and courage deserve appreciation.
The quality of life and the future of a nation depend on the human resources that the nation possesses. The educational institutions have an important role to play. They have to groom the youth. Instilling in youth the spirit of dynamism, sincerity and leadership are imperative. A college is a temple of wisdom. It is a seed bed of character, a nursery where discipline, sincerity, love, compassion and patriotism are nurtured. These blossoming flowers together are garlands which adorn the Bharatha Matha, our great nation. I congratulate Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Arts & Science College for Women for building in wisdom, imparting knowledge, quality education and for empowering the women.
I am happy to learn that this college institutes Graduate and Post Graduate Courses and new courses like M.A.(HRM), M.Sc. (IT), B.Sc. (Interior Design & Décor), opening new vistas for employment. The great poet and philosopher Khalil Gibran said, “Women opened the windows of my eyes and doors of my spirit. Has it not been the woman-mother, the woman – sister and the woman-friend, I would have been sleeping among those who seek tranquility of the world with their snoring”. Women have been and are ever the spirit and guidance for every man. It is interesting to note that Empowerment programmes ‘EP’, programmes aimed at empowerment of Women, cultivating the habit of of social service etc are organized by the college. I am happy to learn that the Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Arts and Science College for Women has performing remarkably well and the overall percentage for last year was 84%.
Today is a momentous occasion for all of you. The sincere and hard work you had put had fetched you the results. Today women have left no field untouched. I appeal to the students, to be dedicated, sincere and hardworking. Mere obtaining a degree will not suffice. You should master your subjects. Aim high in life. Make your dreams come true. You are blessed with studying in this temple of learning. The nation, this institution and the parents expect a lot from you. Make use of the opportunities ahead of you.
I convey my warm felicitations to Thiru Pabbisetty Sreeramulu, Correspondent, Dr.T.Mohanashree, Principal, Faculty, Staff and Students of Sri Kanyaka Parameswari Arts and Science College for Women and to all the young Graduants. I wish the college and the young Graduants all success. My greetings to all of you.
