ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY DR. K. ROSAIAH GOVERNOR OF TAMIL NADU AT THE INAUGURATION OF THE ‘SAMAVESHAM 2012’ – INSIGHTS INTO KUCHIPUDI AT KALAKSHETRA FOUNDATION, CHENNAI ON 01.02.2012 AT 6.00 P.M.
At the outset, I congratulate South Zone Cultural Centre and The Aseema Trust for their dedicated role in promotion of our rich art and culture.
India is a land of diverse culture and is filled with a fine blend of rich tradition. The Literature, Art and Culture of different states of India have made a vital contribution in the building up of unity and harmony. We stand as a symbol of peace. India’s art, music and fine arts have the cementing power. They are the uniting force.
Dance and music are beyond all barriers and knows no geographical boundaries. It is a great unifying and integrating force. It is heartening to note that the South Zone Cultural Centre has joined hands with NGOs like The Aseema Trust to build bridges between traditional performing arts and education in presenting “Kuchipudi Samavesh” to explore the nuances of Kuchipudi – the beautiful and vibrant dance form. Kuchipudi is a class by itself. Vachika Abhinaya is known for its special feature. Today Modern Kuchipudi has become the pride of India and that of Andhra Pradesh in particular. Kuchipudi is the blend of classical music, dance, and sahitya (verse) based on the elements of Natya Sastra. Every essay of human expression is covered in it.
It is gratifying to note that the Kuchipudi Samavesham is being presented at the hallowed precinct of Kalakshetra, whose founder Smt.Rukmini Devi Arundale spearheaded the renaissance of classical style of Bharathanatyam. I congratulate Ms. Sruthakrithy, Dr.Ananda Shankar Jayant, Ms.Deepika Reddy and Smt. Alekhya Punjla for their dance performance and for their efforts to explore a particular aspect – feature of Kuchipdi highlighting footwork, Simhanandini concept, Nritya aspect and Abhinaya.
I commend the efforts taken by Shri Karunaker K Menon, Director, South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur and Ms. V.R.Devika, Managing Trustee, The Aseema Trust in organizing ‘Samavesham-2012’. I convey my warm felicitations to all the performing artists, students, art lovers and rasikas. I wish “Samavesham-2012’ all success.
Jai Hind.
