ECO BEST PRACTICES PROJECT LAUNCHED IN RAJ BHAVAN
The Raj Bhavan Chennai, is situated in the heart of Chennai city and is spread over more than 150 acres housing variety of trees and plants. It has Nakshatra Garden, Palm Garden, Herbal Garden, Silver Jubilee Garden and Diamond Jubilee Garden, the Main Lawn, Oval lawn with beautiful fountains, cascades etc in a total area of about two Hectares with flowering foliage, shrubs and trees. As per direction of His Excellency Shri Surjit Singh Barnala, Governor of Tamil Nadu in order to ensure eco-friendly environment and to make Raj Bhavan more Enviro-Friendly and greenery under the guidance of Shri Rameshram Mishra I.A.S., Principal Secretary to Governor various steps have been taken under the Roshini Project as in Rashtrapathi Bhavan.
As a part of the mission to make Raj Bhavan Enviro-Friendly Lady Governor Smt. Surjit Kaur Barnala today (30.06.2010) launched the ‘Eco Best Practices Project’ by planting a Bheema Bamboo sapling and inaugurated sustainable vegetable cultivation in Raj Bhavan by planting vegetable seedlings. Symbolically Smt. Surjit Kaur Barnala, Wife of Governor handed over a Globe with Plant to the students of Everwin Matriculation School.
Launch of Eco Best practices includes zero solid waste management including vermi-composting, liquid waste management, planting of CO2 neutralizing Bheema Bamboo and making Raj Bhavan completely plastic liter free zone. This also includes Eco product, vertical farming, terrace garden and to take more initiatives to save energy.
Governor’s daughter Smt. Amrit Sandhu released the Blue Print to make Enviro Friendly Raj Bhavan. Shri M.B. Nirmal, Founder-President Exnora International received it. Governor’s grand daughter Ms.Ayesha Sandhu Barnala distributed saplings to the school children. The volunteers of Exnora International are extending their expertise for implementing the Eco Best Practices in Chennai Raj Bhavan.
Shri Abdul Ghani, Youth Exnora President and Shri Indra Kumar, Home Exnora President participated in the programme. Shri K. Vivekanandan, Deputy Secretary to Governor and Shri A.Jeyapandi, Horticulture Officer and other officials were present.
