South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur awarded 1st Prize for Republic Day Children Contingent.
Based on the inspiration and encouragement given by His Excellency Thiru Surjit Singh Barnala, Governor of Tamil Nadu & Chairman, SZCC, the Children Contingent dance ‘Dollukunitha’ from Karnataka State was presented by the South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur in the Republic Day Parade at New Delhi. This Contingent consisted of 160 students from various schools from Bangalore. Vigorous training was given to them for about one and half month at Bangalore and at New Delhi by the renowned Choreographer and dancer, Smt. Sujatha Murthy.
The performance by them during the Republic Day Parade was appreciated at many levels and it also won first prize among the school children programmes. This brought laurels to the South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur. During the prize distribution ceremony held on 31st January 2010 at New Delhi, Shri. A.K. Antony, Hon’ble Union Minister for Defence presented the Trophy to the Children Contingent. The Trophy and certificate was received by Shri. K.V. Giridhar, Director, SZCC.
Thiru K.V.Giridhar, I.F.S., Director, South Zone Cultural Centre met His Excellency Thiru Surjit Singh Barnala, Governor of Tamil Nadu at Raj Bhavan, Chennai today (2.2.2010) and showed the trophy and certificate. The Governor congratulated the Director, SZCC for the excellent performance and appreciated the South Zone Cultural Centre for winning the first prize. The Director said that this is the first time that the South Zone Cultural Centre has won the first prize in the Republic Day Children Contingent Programme held at New Delhi. He also said that the SZCC is proposing to hold a felicitation function at Bangalore along with Ministry of Higher Education, Government of Karnataka and the children contingent would be honoured with Prizes and Certificates for their best performance. Thiru Rameshram Mishra I.A.S., Principal Secretary to Governor was present.
