Barnala calls on President of Singapore
His Excellency Sardar Surjit Singh Barnala, the Governor of Tamil Nadu witnessed the Deepavali Cultural Parade at Singapore, organized by the Hindu Endowment Board, Singapore and Singapore Tourism, as the Chairman of the South Zone Cultural Centre on 14th October, 2006. A Cultural Troupe consisting of 23 performing artistes from the South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur performed in the Parade as well as in the temples of Singapore.
His Excellency Sardar Surjit Singh Barnala called on His Excellency Shri S.R. Nathan, President of Singapore and had a discussion on jointly promoting the common cultural heritage. Sardar Barnala also visited the Museum of Asian Civilization and appreciated the Islamic and South Asian – Tamil Galleries. The Governor also met the Indian community and Mr. Wong Kan Seng, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home affairs, Singapore, at the programme organized by the Singapore – Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Khalsa Association at Singapore gave a rousing reception to Sardar Surjit Singh Barnala. Sardar Barnala also visited the Guruduwara at Silat road and the Sikh Centre in Singapore. He also held discussions with Mr. Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth Affairs & Sports and Mr. Balaji Sadasivam, Minister for External Affairs, Communication Development & IT, during his visit.
